This Scherzo (sehr lebhaft) is a rarely heard but beautiful movement for stringquartett by the viennese composer Franz Schmidt (1874.1939).
Franz Schmidt was comtemporary for instance with Alexander Zemlinskys. Like Schönbergs compositionteacher Alexander Zemlinsky Franz Schmidt also personally knew Arnold Schönberg quite well and even played chambermusic with him. But like Zemlinsky Schmidt hesitated to follow Schönberg Way to dodekaphonic composition, instead he preferred to compose ambitious music in the tradition of classical and romantic music.
